Accessibility Statement

1. Our commitment

Girder Construction Inc. is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, speech input, or who need motion reduced or contrast increased. We are also committed to meeting our obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and to treating people with dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity.

We build accessible washrooms, counters, ramps and clear routes into commercial spaces every week. It would be hard to argue for that on a site nobody could use.

2. The standard we build to

We design and build this site with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our target. That is a step beyond the WCAG 2.0 Level AA benchmark the AODA's Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation references, and we chose it deliberately.

We describe this as a target and a practice rather than a certification. We have not published a third-party conformance audit, so we won't claim full conformance. Where we fall short, we would rather know and fix it than assert otherwise.

3. What we've built in

Semantic, structured markup

Real headings in order, real lists, real landmarks, and a skip-to-content link that works before the page has finished loading.

Keyboard operability

Every link, button, filter and accordion can be reached and operated by keyboard alone, with a high-contrast focus ring that is never removed.

Reduced-motion fallback

The scroll-driven animation on our homepage collapses to a static, fully readable sequence when your device requests reduced motion. No content lives only inside an animation.

Contrast and colour

Text and interface colours are chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast on our dark palette, and colour is never the only way we communicate state — filters and toggles carry a text or icon signal too.

Text alternatives

Images that carry meaning have descriptive alt text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology rather than announced as noise.

Readable without scripts or images

Pages are prerendered as real HTML and stay complete and readable with JavaScript disabled or images blocked.

Targets and zoom

Interactive targets are sized for touch, and layouts reflow rather than break when text is enlarged or the window is narrow.

Labelled forms

Form fields have visible labels tied to their inputs, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone.

4. Known limitations

An honest statement names the gaps. As of the date above:

• This site has not yet been through an independent third-party accessibility audit. One is planned.
• Some imagery is licensed stock standing in for our own photography. Its alt text describes the type of space shown rather than a specific project, and will be rewritten when our own photography replaces it.
• Content or documents supplied by third parties — a map embed, a downloadable PDF, a linked external site — may not meet the same standard as pages we build ourselves. Ask us and we will get you the information another way.

5. Accessible formats and communication supports

If you need anything on this site — a page, a quote, a proposal, a policy — in an accessible format or with a communication support, ask us and we will provide it. We'll agree the format with you, provide it in a timely way, and it will not cost you more than it would cost anyone else.

Large print, plain text, an emailed document, a read-through over the phone, or an in-person conversation instead of a form — whatever works for you. Just tell us what you need.

6. Feedback process

If you hit a barrier on this site, or anywhere else in dealing with us, please tell us. Feedback about accessibility is welcome in whichever of these ways suits you — and we will accept it in an alternative format on request.

Tell us what you were trying to do, where on the site it happened, and how you were using it if you're comfortable sharing that — it helps us reproduce the problem. We aim to acknowledge feedback within 5 business days and to explain what we're doing about it, including a timeframe if a fix will take longer. Feedback is reviewed by the person responsible for this site, and we use it to decide what gets fixed next.

7. On site and in person

Accessibility isn't only a website matter for us. We welcome service animals and support persons at our office and on our sites. If you need an accommodation during a consultation, a site walk, a project meeting or our hiring process, tell us in advance and we'll arrange it.

On the build side, AODA and Ontario Building Code accessibility requirements — barrier-free paths, counter heights, door clearances, washroom fixtures, signage, lighting — are part of how we scope and detail a fit-out from the start, not a retrofit at the end.

8. Review

We review this statement at least annually, and whenever we make a significant change to the site. It was last updated on 28 July 2026.
